Day 7

Mrs. Mac and I have been a little frustrated. At BYU we have taken two semesters of how to teach elementary math. We learned how to use manipulatives as well as unix cubes to help students truly understand multiplication, addition, subtraction, division, as well as fractions. Even as a college student, when I was taught these methods it made it so much easier for me to comprehend the word place values to a-whole-nother level. When using the sticks of ten cubes, or the square with one hundred cubes, then showing students what it really means to count by 100’s or by 10’s. Unfortunately, these methods are not used in this classroom. So when the students are not understanding, and the teacher is not understanding why, Mrs. Mac and know how much these manipulatives could help these student not only have a visual aid, but understand why skip counting words.
